Radiosport

Contesting, called Radiosport in ham radio, has many devoted followers, but it also has its detractors. At the September LARC meeting, Gregory Brown, KTØK, will present the pros and cons of each stance and provide a basic introduction to contesting, including ways advocates and adversaries can coexist on the bands. Join us and learn all you need to know to get started!

August Club Meeting: The Magykal Art of Throwing One’s Voice Around the World (The Æther Whisper)

Propagation Prognosticator and Space Weather Wizard, Tomas Hood (NW7US), will reveal esoterica about the Sun-Earth connection, the ionosphere, and the propagation of short radio waves around the world. Whether you are a seasoned HF radio DXer or SWLer, or you are just starting on your life-long love affair with all things radio, this talk may inspire you to begin new adventures on shortwave radio frequencies.

Tomas will touch on Sun science and space weather and may even reveal what to expect in the next 11 years of ham radio on the high frequencies.

July Club Meeting

Hamvention Update

It’s an annual tradition — including great music and drool-worthy equipment photos. If you guessed Joe Eisenberg’s (KØNEB) Dayton Hamvention update, you’re right! Joe will also share Hamvention history and a bit about other major hamfests, including why they’re so popular and why you should go to hamfests.

DMR Radio

The June club meeting is all about DMR: what it is, how it works, Ham-friendly dealers, networks, websites, and more.

George Bellairs, KBØZZT, president of the Bellevue Amateur Radio Club, Nebraska Section Official Observer, and Bellevue Police Department VIPER Unit Coordinator will fill us in on DMR and why you should get in on this new way to operate.

May Club Meeting

The May club meeting is May 8 at 19:30. We will meet at LI-COR (4647 Superior Street) – located near the intersection of Superior Street and North 48th Street.

Field Day

Randy King, KØNC, and Jeff Bennett, WØWKP, will share a presentation on the history of Field Day and LARC’s participation over the years. There will also be information on what it takes to set up for emergency operations and opportunities to get on the air.

Volunteer sheets will be available for those interested in participating with setup, teardown, and other aspects of Field Day.
