ARRL Nebraska State Convention
The ARRL Nebraska State Convention will be Saturday, May 14, at the Lancaster County Event Center (map). Check out www.lincolnhamfest.org to stay in the know regarding Hamfest, and invite your friends to join you at the convention.
Volunteers needed
We’ll be setting up the room on Friday, May 13, from noon to 5:00 pm. Volunteers are needed Friday and Saturday to assist with setting up tables, escorting flea market and exhibitor participants to their designated areas, raffle ticket sales, and more. If you are available to help on one or both of those days, please get in touch with me at k0rpt@arrl.net.

Lancaster County Storm Spotter Make-up Session
Lancaster County Spotter Training Make-Up Session will be Saturday, May 7th at the LARC Clubhouse. Registration begins at 9:30 AM. Brian Smith will start his presentation at 11:00 AM. The credentialing exam will follow and Ed’s, KØRPT, presentation will follow the exam.

It is with deep sorrow that I report to you the passing of a long-time friend and fellow amateur radio operator. Larry Ohs, KCØLXQ passed this morning after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Larry was a member of the LARC and a long-time member of ARES. Larry filled the role of FEMA Liaison to LEOC. Some of you may remember the tornado that took out Hallam, NE. Larry was assigned to Point 5.0. Located just a mile west of Hallam, the tornado completely destroyed his car. Fortunately, Larry escaped.
Recently, Larry and I rode together to Cass Co. for a SE Nebraska NeARES presentation held by James Nelson. We had some real laughs and some serious talks about life in amateur radio. As a retired Lawyer of business contracts, Larry’s input and assistance have paved the way for many of the club’s ventures. Larry not only assisted LARC but, many other clubs including the formation of NeARES.
Our long talks on the phone and the many laughs will be greatly missed. R.I.P, Larry! KCØLXQ /SK

Larry’s Funeral is scheduled for Thursday, December 30 at 10:30 am at Southgate United Methodist Church, 3500 Pioneers Blvd, Lincoln NE.

Aug. Public Service – Volunteers Needed
The month of August is HEATING UP! We have two events and they involve bikes! The first event is brand new, the Gravel Worlds 2021. It is similar to the Gravel Grinder, a Cornhusker State Games. This event is much larger, however! I have been informed this sold-out ride has approximately 1,700 participants. It is on Saturday, August 21, starting and finishing at SchillingBridge Cork and Tap House, located in the Fallbrook neighborhood, just minutes from downtown Lincoln.
The sponsor of this event, Pirate Cycling League (PCL), heard of us through people who know us and informed the PCL team how well we work with events such as these. In their email to me, the event organizers were very excited for us to help, so much so they are going to feed each Ham volunteer at SchillingBridge. Also, they are going to make a donation to LARC in appreciation of our event support. So please keep this date open. With this many participants, I need all hands on deck! Arr! I will have more information at the club meeting, but please, if you are willing to help, contact me ASAP at k0shc13@yahoo.com.
The second event, the Heatstroke 100 bike ride, is just a week later on Sunday, August 29. Yep, the folks at Great Plains Bicycling Club again have asked for our help with their day-long event. The participants start and finish at the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum, on Hwy 66 just off of I-80. Our job is to keep riders safe and possibly SAG them or call for a SAG to come get them. As is in the past, the Great Plains Bicycling Club has made a generous donation for our time and efforts supporting their event. They also feed us brats!
