            Our first speaker will be Tom Guilford, KDØSXP, who will tell us about “EMP—Electromagnetic Pulse: A Weapon of Mass Disruption,” its history and the potential effects of EMP on electrical circuits.  Tom lives in Lincoln and is a relatively new Ham. He has experience in Emergency Management at the military level from his time as an EM civilian contractor at Offutt Air Force Base as well as with the Air Force Air National Guard.  He has also received training for Storm Spotting and CERT and the Emergency Volunteer Center program.  Tom has a Bachelor’s degree in education from Concordia University, Seward, and taught for 17 years in Lutheran schools.

Our second speaker will be Doug Buhrman, KØDSP. Doug is an Electrical Engineer and the Manager of Telecommunications at LES. He will explain the state of our local electrical system and LES’s outlook on the potential threat of EMP.                                         —Mike Walsh, KBØQH

Mike Long, KØSHC, LARC Public Service Chair 2013

It is almost time for the severe weather season in our part of the country, and other Public Service activities are starting to ramp up. It is appropriate that our speaker for April is the chairman of the Public Service committee, Mike Long, KØSHC.  Mike has been very active in the Club’s Public Service activities. Mike has presented before to the Club on this subject and was very informative.  I know that Hams new to participating in Storm Spotting and other activities will really benefit from what Mike has to say.

Some of the topics Mike will cover include such things as preparation before taking part in a Public Service event (i.e., a GO kit); Net reporting and etiquette while on the air; and interaction with the public and other agencies. This should be a great program you won’t want to miss.

Many volunteers are needed to assist with supporting various activities for the events.

We are still in need of coordinators for some events.  The coordinator (YOU) will stay in contact with the coordinator at the State Games office.  You will keep in touch with the Chairmen over this Event.  There is a list of events still needing coordinators. Please contact the Chairman if you are available to help. We would really appreciate all the help.
